More on radiation, this time mobile

Saturday, June 9th, 2007

Continuing on my previous post, the widespread use of mobile phones is also another reason for concern. But here it is more likely the diversity of information rather than the lack of it that makes things so difficult. It is very difficult for the layman to get a good opinion on how dangerous mobile radiation actually is, when there keeps popping out new and contradictory reports all the time.

- “Mobile phones cause cancer…”
- “..yes, but only in rats.”
- “Actually they are completely safe” (report incidentally sponsored by mobile phone company X - whoops!)

There’s no denying how practical devices mobile phones are - many people could almost not do without them today - but I think we need to know more about the long term effects of them.

It is not difficult to understand that the mobile phone companies will fight any attempt to ruin their business, including reports that would deem their products hazardous to our health.

However, I think it is time we (as a human race) stopped worshipping the God of economical growth above all else. Things with the environment for example, are already catching up with us and unless we start making some changes we are only setting ourselves up for a nasty fall.
