Monday, October 30th, 2006

Solving a Sudoku puzzle with the help of software, certainly must defeat the purpose of playing the game in the first place - right?

Well, not nessecarily.

In fact, a Sudoku solving piece of software can be used in order to enhance your Sudoku skills. But only if it is used in the right manner. The sudoku solving feature is offered on some websites and in certain downloadable applications for your PC.

Finding Sudokus isn’t difficult…

Friday, October 27th, 2006

A good thing about Sudoku puzzles is that they are so extremely easy to get hold of. There are Sudokus in books, newspapers, magazines and on Internet websites.

On the web alone there should be enough puzzles to keep you playing every day for a lifetime. And then there are also various shareware games you can download and play on your computer as well as commercial and free games for handheld gaming devices such as the Sony PSP.

Although finding a lot of Sudoku is as easy as falling of a log, I have still dedicated a section of the site to this topic. When I find a good source for Sudoku puzzles, wether on- or offline, I will add it to the page where to find Sudoku puzzles.

If you have some suggestion that would fit into this category, let me know and I’ll have a look.

Women whooped men at Sudoku

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Here is an interesting clip (with a rather energetic host), that contains some interesting notes about the game of Sudoku.

Although this clip from mobuzztv begins by being a little mean with Sylvester Stallone, after about a minute, there is an interesting piece of news about the first national Sudoku championship held in the UK - the women absolutely kicked the mens but in this sudoku competition.

Well, there you go!

Although the men clearly outnumbered the women in this sudoku competition, an 18 year old woman ended up victorious, not to mention the fact the amount of women outnumbered the men in the finals. Hmm, maybe this has something to do with the aledged better multi-tasking capability of women…

The notes about Sudoku not being math, but that math and logic are basically the same or at least very similar, where also rather interesting.

As far as women being logical or Stallone making another Rocky - I’ll keep my opinions to myself ;-)

Varieties on Sudoku

Friday, October 20th, 2006

Do you remember when there was only one type of sudoku puzzle? It was a simple (or sometimes not so simple) 3×3 grid using only the numbers 1 to 9. Now, as the sudoku craze is sweeping the world, new sudoku varieties are coming out of the woodwork. There are now so many variations on the original sudoku game, that newbies just dont know where to start. Here is a quick guide to some of the newer sudoku variations with basic rules.

Standard Sudoku: This is the original sudoku game (also called Number Place). It is also referred to as a 3×3 (3 mini-grids across, 3 mini-grids down). Each mini-grid, row, and column must contain the numbers 1 through 9. There can be no duplicates in any row, column, or min-grid.

Welcome to the Sudokuhints blog

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

This is the blog of Sudokuhints.info (duh! ;-) ).

Here you will find news and updates about what is happening on the main site, as well as some other news - all of it somehow related to Sudoku of course. If you would like to make a comment about something on this site, or have something interesting to say about something Sudoku related anyways - fire away in this blog!
So, what to write about in this first post…I know!

I recently added a rather cool translation feature to the Sudokuhints site, you will find it (represented by a row of flags) at the bottom of every page. Click on the Spanish flag on you can read the entire site in Spanish, the Italian flag for Italian etc.

Since this is a type of automated translation, it is obviously not gramatically perfect or anything but it should be possible to get a good idea about our content in other languages than english.

Happy Sudokuing - wherever you are!
