Alzheimers, Sudoku and the boob tube

Exercising your brain by playing Sudoku, solving crossword puzzles is generally believed to improve your memory and even prevent certain deceases such as Alzheimer. Other types of gentle exercise and fresh air are also considered great preventive measures.

It comes as no surprise that watching television would do very little to give you any kind of exercise (unless you are watching an exercise tape of course), but according to some studies watching too much television may actually cause Alzheimer.

According to professors at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, people tend to be in a mentally very inactive state when they watch television - and we all know what eventually happens to any body part that is too inactive…

What is not quite as well known however, is the various kinds of radiation emitted from your trusty old television set. According to a study conducted by Eugene Sobel in 1995, there may very well be a causal relationship between these types of radiation and developing Alzheimer disease.

I am not advocating anyone to throw out their tv-set, but it would certainly be interesting to know more about this subject. Is there any difference as to the type of television, for example…

Meanwhile though, I think it is relatively safe to keep Sudokuing ;-)
