The benefits of a Sudoku puzzle book

With "sudoku book" I guess you could mean one of two things.

1) A sudoku puzzle book that is filled with various sudoku puzzles of varying difficulty.

2) A sudoku book that goes into the planning and strategy of solving Sudoku puzzles.

With all the free sudoku puzzles available, one would think that there isn't much commercially produced Sudoku products available. However, the opposite is very true - I just did a search for "Sudoku" at amazon.com and came up with 370 book dedicated to this subject. This certainly show how immensely popular this subject has become over a rather short period of time.

Many books are a hybrid between a collection of puzzles as well as an introduction to how to play the game, various tactics and systems. One of the first books I purchased was "Sudoku Easy" by Will Shortz, which I still wholeheartedly recommend to any beginning Sudoku player.

Although there are many electronic ways to play Sudoku, I actually prefer the old fashioned way of pen and paper. And a good puzzle book will keep you "in Sudoku" for a long time to come. What I also like to do is fasten the part of the book containing the correct solutions with a few pieces of tape, so that i won't "accidentally" see any of the solutions before I have completed the puzzle.

Another aspect is that, because of the complexity of the "single number per direction rule" of Sudoku, many beginners are having a hard time completing it in matter of a single day. That is why most Sudoku beginners are encouraged to have a hard copy of a Sudoku puzzle so that they can spend more time solving it without actually logging on their personal computer.

Even easy puzzles are difficult to complete, so it would be impractical if you will be solving it in front of your computer especially if you are playing a Sudoku puzzle online. For these reasons, printed Sudoku puzzles are actually prefered by many Sudoku players, and is especially suitable for beginners.

As for Sudoku books that focus on the strategy and planning of solving the game, there are also many books available. In fact, I am currently working on a small Sudoku guide myself, that I will make available for download on this site as soon as it is finished.
