The popularity of small handheld gaming devices, such as the Sony PSP and Nintendo DS, is bigger than ever. It comes as no surprise then, that there are quite a few alternatives if you want an electronic, handheld Sudoku game.
In the past two decades, electronic games are found in virtually every household in the United States alone where statistics from other countries are not yet determined. Electronic games amounts to million of dollars spent in buying those gadgets just to satisfy the growing popularity, especially to kids and even to adults. Electronic games can result to a game addiction without considering the time and amount of money it will cost you.
For playing Sudoku electronically there are basically two options: A software program for your PC or (handheld) gaming console, or a dedicated handheld Sudoku gadget. Although a laptop certainly is portable, a dedicated gadget or Suodku game for your PSP/gameboy will offer unparalleled possibility to play electronic Sudoku anywhere, anytime.
The Electronic Sudoku gadget basically includes a memory function for the game state and highest score recording, an automatic answer adjustment and a sleep mode.
Although I haven't really tried many of these handheld Sudoku devices myself, there seems to be a few of them out there that at least look promising. They will vary in appearance and features - some have more puzzles, while others have inbuilt functions like puzzle timers and sound effects. Some handhelds simply allow you to solve Sudoku and nothing else.
One thing to look out for is the contrast and back light (if the device has one) of the display. hard to see the number entries. The reflection on the gadget’s screen can be very distracting and it may difficult to see the grid especially during daytime. Try it out in the store before you buy it.
If you have bought a handheld Sudoku game (or a game for your portable gaming system), send me a review of it and I will publish it on the site. Maybe we could find out which Sudoku handheld offers the most bang for the buck.
